THE INDIANS DIDN'T CARE TO LISTEN: 'THIS IS OUR COUNTRY,' THEY KEPT REPEATING. AFTER PILLAGING THE CANOES, THEY MADE PRISONERS OF THE ENTIRE FLOTILLA, INCLUDING JEAN PILOTE. AFTER NINE DAYS OF MARCHING, THE GROUP APPROACHED FORT SAINT-LOUIS DES ILLINOIS, WHERE THE FUR TRADERS WERE RELEASED 'WITHOUT PROVISIONS, WITHOUT CANOES, NO ARMS OTHER THAN TWO OLD GUNS WITH LITTLE POWDER AND LEAD.'
