1822 - Woman Thief
Many robberies have lately been committed in the Parishes of St. Foy and Cap Rouge, in Canada, and one or two buildings have been burnt. These depreditions are attributed to a notorious woman named Marie Lapointe, who leads a gipsey life, depending upon theft, and sometimes upon begging for subsistence. She is a very short, dark and sharp featured woman, generally habited in man's clothes, with a sash round her body; she is supposed to be aided by other offenders. A warrant has been obtained for her apprehension, and a party of 30 or 40 of the inhabitants have secured the woods twice without success. - N. Y. Advertiser.

1979 - 17 DIE, 7 INJURED IN PLANE CRASH.
St. Foy, Que. (UPI) - Seventeen people died and seven were seriously injured Thursday night in the fiery crash of a Quebec Air turboprop that plunged into a field and shattered into three pieces minutes after taking off.

The dead included all three crew members and 14 passengers, a Quebec Air spokesman said today. The seven injured were reported out of danger but in serious condition with burns and fractures.
The Fairchild F-27 aircraft, bound for Montreal, took off from St. Foy's L'Ancienne Laurette airport in suburban Quebec City at 6:50 p.m. EST Thursday.

"Off the take-off, Quebec Air flight 255 advised the control tower of engine trouble and was given immediate permission to make an emergency landing," Derek Crossen, director-general of the regional airline, said today.

Runways were cleared. The plane circled the airport twice, then skimmed over a local restaurant with flames bursting from one engine before crashing into a field less than a mile from a runway, breaking... Read MORE...

The origin of its toponym is uncertain and can be attributed to a variety of circumstances occurring between 1626 and 1669. The name may have originated from a Huron adolescent who was baptized in France around 1626 or 1627 with the name of Louys de Saincte-Foy. Alternately, it may have come from the presence of Pierre de Puiseaux, seigneur of Sainte-Foy, around 1637. There is one certainty - since 1678, the name Sainte-Foy was frequently used and the military papers of the war of 1759-60 used the name Sainte-Foy exclusively.

The Battle of Sainte-Foy occurred on 28 April 1760. It was the last victory that the franco-canadiennes had over the British. Since 1995 this battle has been officially commemorated in April of ... Read MORE...
