Frederick Law Olmsted was a 19th-century American landscape architect, journalist, and social critic, best known for his influential work in landscape design. Born on April 26, 1822, in Hartford, Connecticut, Olmsted had a diverse career that spanned various fields.

Before delving into his landscape architecture achievements, let's start with his early life. Olmsted's family was well-off, but financial misfortune struck during his adolescence. His formal education was somewhat sporadic due to these financial challenges. However, his travels in Europe and the United States, as well as his keen observation of nature, cultivated an appreciation for the environment that would shape his future career.

U.S. President1881 - July 2 - James A. Garfield was shot at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C., at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 2, 1881. He died in Elberon, New Jersey, two months later on September 19, 1881. The shooting occurred less than four months into his term as president. Charles J. Guiteau was convicted of Garfield's murder and executed by hanging one year after the shooting. Chester Arthur becomes President of the United States.
