BRIMFIELD - E. H. DAVENPORT DIES; SERVED IN CIVIL WAR
Fought in 17 Battles Without Being Wounded - Held Town Office 10 Years

Brimfield, April 23 - Edward H. Davenport, 84, a veteran of the Civil war, died this morning at Orlando, Fla., where he had been visiting, after an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Davenport had been away from Brimfield since early February when he went to Chicago to visit his son, Arthur. Then he went to Orlando to the winter home of his other son, William C.

Mr. Davenport was born at Heath, and as a young man lived at Buckland and Charlemont. At the age of 18, en enlisted at Greenfield, December 19, 1863, in Co B, 84th Massachusetts regiement. He renelisted and was transferred to Co A, 24th Massachusetts. After hostilities ended his regiment was engaged in guard duty at Richmond, Va. He was discharged at Richmond, January 21, 1866.

Mr. Davenport when in the 34th regiment, was in 16 engagements as follows: Newmarket, Piedmont, Lynchburg, Island Ford, Kernstown, Martinsburt, Halltown, Beryville, Winchester, ...Read MORE...
