Biography
FREDERICK COFFIN PEACH— An outstanding figure in the present day activities in Berkshire County is Frederick Coffin Peach, who is prominent as a leader in financial circles and represents the internationally famous firm of Kidder, Peabody & Company in this district. Mr. Peach is a man of definite and tested ability, and in his steady rise to his present prominence he has won countless friends.

The Peach family is an old one in the State of Massachusetts, having been represented in this colony as early as 1649. John Peach, who was born in 1612, settled in Marblehead in 1648, where he died in 1679. In direct descent of the pioneer line. General Benjamin F. Peach, Mr. Peach's father, was a noted figure in military affairs of the State of Massachusetts for many years. In the Civil War he served in every service of the 8th Massachusetts Infantry through the grades of first sergeant, first lieutenant, adjutant and colonel. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved over 156,000 troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. The operation aimed to liberate Western Europe from Nazi German control. The landings marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, leading to the eventual Allied victory in Europe.

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. 1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

Frederick C Peach of Lenox Dies at 83

Frederick Coffin Peach, 83, of Lenox, long a prominent figure in the investment field in Berkshire County, died yesterday in a Lenox nursing home.

A native of Lynn, he entered the employ of Kidder-Peabody brokerage firm in Boston immediately after his graduation from Lynn Classical School. In 1915 he moved to Pittsfield and established the F. C. Peach Investment Co., which acted as correspondent for Kidder Peabody. He later also acted as agent for the G. M. P. Murphy, Reynolds and Co. and Goodbody Co.

He was an active member of the Unitarian Church and had been a member of the Unitarian League Council; belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution and the Military Order of the Loyal Legion. He was past president of Pittsfield Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, was a director of the former Third National Bank and the Morris Plan Bank; was vice-president of the Berkshire County Tuberculosis Assn., was on the investment board of the...Read MORE...
