THINK DISMEMBERED BODY IS IDENTIFIED
Massachusetts Police are Seeking Doctor in Massachusetts Case

'CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept 14 - Belief that the dismembered body of a woman found in the Merrimack River at Tyngsboro in two suit cases two weeks ago had been identified today intensified the search for a doctor who had offices in the back bay section of Boston.'

'District Attorney Reding said he thought the woman was Mrs. George Wolschendorf of East Bridgewater who has been missing since Aug. 28.'

'She was the mother of four children, the eldest being 20 years old and the youngest 12.'

'One suit case found in the river contained the torso, the other had the legs of the same body. The head has not been found.'

'Cambridge, Sept. 14 - Dr. William M. Robb, Boston physician, who has been sought for three days for questioning in connection with circumstances surrounding the disappearance of two suit cases similar to those in which the torso and limbs of a woman were found in the Merrimack river at Tyngsboro the 1st and 2d, drove up to the East Cambridge courthouse in his automobile late today and went into conference with Dist-Atty Arthur K. Reading of Middlesex county. He denied any knowledge of the case and said he had hurried back from a vacation in Philadelphia as soon as he learned from his wife that he was wanted. The physician spent the evening with the district attorney answering questions as to his movements during the days preceding the 1st.'

'Lowell, Sept. 15 - Dr William M. Robb of Boston pleaded 'not guilty' when arraigned in the Lowell district court today on a charge of illegal surgery in connection with the death of Mrs Alice Wolschendorf of East Bridgewater.'

'Robb was held in $8000 bail.'

'Dr Dalva H. Swope of Brockton, charged with being an accessory before the fact under Section 2, chapter 274 of the General Laws, also pleaded 'not guilty' and was held in bail of $5000.'

'It was expected that the case will be presented to the Middlesex county grand jury October 1.'

'Brockton, Sept. 16 - William F. Bowen of Bridgewater, one of the persons questioned in connection with the death of Mrs Alice M. Wolschendorf of that place, parts of whose body were found floating in the Merrimack river at Tyngsboro in two suitcases two weeks ago, swallowed poison and slashed his throat with a razor today. He is at a hospital here.'

'Dr William M Robb of Boston was arrested Friday charged with performing an illegal operation on the woman, causing her death, and Dr Dalva Swope of this city was charged with being an accessory.'

Members of Bowen's family told the authorities that the man had been despondent since he was questioned by state police and by Dist-Atty Arthur K. Bowen May Die As Result of Suicide Attempt - Held in Wolschendorf Case
'Brockton, Mass. Sept. 17 - William S. Bowen, who attempted suicide at his home in East Bridgewater as a sequel to his being questioned by Middlesex county authorities in connection with the finding of the dismembered body of Mrs. Alice M. Wolschendorf, of East Bridgewater, in the Merrimac river, was in a serious condition at a hospital here today. A police officer is at the bedside but according to District Attorney Reading, of Middlesex county, Bowen is not under arrest. The district attorney said that he might be held as a material witness in the case in connection with which Dr. William M. Robb, of Boston, is under arrest charged with performing an illegal operation and R. Dalva Swope of Brockton, charged with being an accessory before the fact.'

'The authorities have disclosed nothing as to what occurred when Dr. Rob was taken to see Bowen at the hospital yesterday. Bowen told the chief of police at East Bridgewater that people had been lying about him.'

'Cambridge, Sept. 17 - A special session of the Middlesex county grand jury has been summoned for tomorrow by Dist-Atty. Arthur K. Reading to consider the case of Dr. William M. Robb of Boston, charged with illegal surgery in connection with the death of Mrs Alice Wolschendorf of East Bridgewater, parts of whose body were found in two suitcases in the Merrimack river at Tyngsboro two weeks ago.'

'Dr Robb, who returned from Philadelphia Friday and gave himself up, pleaded not guilty when arraigned in Lowell Saturday and was released on $8000 bail. Dr Dalva Swope of Brockton, charged with being an accessory before the fact, also pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail. William F. Bownen of East Bridgewater, formerly Mrs Wolschendorf's employer, who took poison and slashed his throat with a razor yesterday, is said to be recovering at a Brockton hospital. Middlesex Grand Jury Indicts Robb for Murder and Swope as Accessory in Two Counts

'Cambridge, Sept. 18 - Dr. William M. Robb, Boston physician, was locked up in East Cambridge jail tonight to await arraignment Thursday on an indictment charging first degree murder. The physician was indicted today by the Middlesex county grand jury in connection with the death of Mrs. Alice M. Wolschendorf of East Bridgwater, parts of whose body were found in two suitcases in the Merrimack river at Tyngsboro the 1st and 2d.'

'Another physician, Dr. Dalva A. Swope, of Brockton, also was indicted in connection with the same case. He was charged in two counts with being an accessory before and after the fact. 'I hope in this way I may free myself and my children from association with the suitcase murder some time in the future. The name Wolschendorf has been dragged through the mire.''

'The case was brought to a sensational close when it was announced that Dr. Robb had this morning pointed out the spot where the head and certain other parts of Mrs. Wolschendorf's body were buried in Concord. The case opened with the finding of the dismembered body of the woman in two suitcases, floating in the Merrimac River.'

'An exhaustive search had to date failed to reveal the head and several vital organs.'

'The torso of a woman found floating in a suitcase in Merrimac river near Tyngsboro in September 1923 was later identified by George E Wolschendorf, East Bridgewater, as that of his wife.'

'Brockton, Mass., Jan 21 - (AP) - Dr. Dalva H. Swope of this city, who was indicted as an accessory in connection with the Tyngsboro 'suit case murder' in 1923 but never brought to trial, died at his home today after an illness of a month.'

'Dr Swope and Dr William H. Robb, of Boston, were arrested after parts of a woman's body were found in a suit case in the Merrimac river at Tyngsboro. Investigation by state police disclosed that the suit case was taken from an automobile owned by Dr Robb. The body was identified as that of Mrs. Alice M. Wolschendorf, of East Bridgewater, who had died as the result of an illegal operation.'

'While Robb was in jail at East Cambridge awaiting trial, he offered to reveal the hiding places of the missing parts of the woman's body, and these were found later in various parts of the state.'

'Rutland, April 11 - Having served three years and four months of a five-to-seven-year sentence, Dr. William M. Robb, principal in the famous Tyngsboro suitcase murder mystery was freed on parole from the state prison camp here today.'

'Robb's arrest and subsequent imprisonment followed the discovery of the dismembered body of Mrs Alice Wolschendorf of East Bridgewater in the Merrimac river at Tyngsboro in the summer of 1923. The physician finally admitted responsibility for the death of the woman, who died following an illegal operation.'
