"Miss Lucille Sarah Crouss, daughter of Mr and Mrs Willard C. Crouss of Mill street, Agawam became the bride of Wendell M. Gosse, son of Mr and Mrs J. J. Gosse of Bronson terrace, this city, yesterday afternoon at 4 at the home of the bride's parents. Rev John H. Dutton, former pastor of the Agawam Congregational church performed the ceremony which was attended by only the members of the immediate families."

"Mrs. H. W. Pond, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor, and Lincoln Gosse, was his brother's best man."

1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

'AGAWAM Lucille (Crouss) Gosse, 91, of 156 School St., died Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Springfield, she was a lifelong resident here. She was a graduate of Agawam High School. She was a longtime member of the Congregational Church, where she was a choir member since the age of 15 and a soloist. She was the leader of Ladies Aid Society Group 3 and a member of the Agawam Women's Club, the Agawam Garden Club, and the Audubon Society. Her husband, Wendell M. Gosse, died in 1974 and a son, Wendell M. Jr., died in 1962. She leaves a daughter, Marilyn Gabel of Agawam; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be Saturday morning at the Congregational Church. Burial will precede the service in Center Cemetery. Agawam Funeral Home is in charge. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 393 Maple...Read MORE...
