The home of Henry Korch near Wilsonville in the town of Thompson was destroyed by fire that broke out about 6 o'clock Sunday morning driving the family out into the cold. Korch has a wife and three children. Korch's home is situated in a farming community so there was not apparatus to fight the fire. The lost is said to be about $1,060.

The Draft
Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Thursday, March 28, 1963

'Henry E. Korch, 84, of Ash Street died Tuesday at the Webster District Hospital after a long illness.

A resident of this town for 60 years, he was a retired shipper from American Optical Company of Southbridge and a member of the Church of the Reconciliation.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Korch, one son Henry Jr., both of Webster; four daughters Mrs. Margaret Snow of Charlton, Mrs. Elizabeth Jewell of Fayban, Conn., Mrs. Marian Ellery of Thompson, Conn., and Mrs. Dorothy Buck of Putney, Vt., 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Pike and Luther Funeral Home followed by services in the Church of the Reconciliation, Rev. Robert Davis will officiate.

Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.'
