The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' WEBSTER - Mrs. Mary (Taberski) Korch, 61, of 86 Ash St., died yesterday at Webster District Hospital.
She was born in Webster and had lived here all her life. She was the wife of Edward Korch, Sr.
Besides her husband, she leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Clementine Kasierski) Taberski of Websger; two sons, Edward Korch Jr. of Webster and Allen Korch of Wilsonville, Conn.; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Kliss of Webster; three brothers, Michael Taberski of Torrington, Conn., Victor Taberski of Dudley and Stephen Taberski of Webster; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Goudreau of Ware, Mrs. Ralph Gliniecki of Dudley, and Mrs. Edward Malick of Webster, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 in Grace Episcopal Church, Oxford, the Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster.
Calling hours at the Shaw Funeral Home ar today and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m.
