Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

C. Stafford Slade CLARKSBURG - Charles Stafford Slade, 81, of 55 Henderson Road died yesterday at his home after a long illness Born Nov. 15, 1906, in North Adams, the son of Charles H. and Jessie M. Fiege Slade, he was educated in Stamford. Vt., schools and attended Drury High School in North Adams He was a working foreman for appliances with Massachusetts Electric Co. in North Adams for 32 years, retiring in March 1969. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Adams and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, where he was a 50-year member, and a former member of the Hairpin Turners Square Dance Club of Northern Berkshire. He leaves his wife, the former Janet McLean, who he married Oct. 14, 1929; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Pomeroy of Lanesboro, Mrs. Mary Anne La Pierre of Clarksburg and Miss Nancy Jane Slade of Dalton; a son. John M. Slade of Dalton; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Garrison of Schenectady, N.Y., and Mrs. Doris Scott of Adams; a brother, Clayton...Read MORE...
