Rudolf Diesel was a German inventor and mechanical engineer born on March 18, 1858, in Paris, France. He's best known for inventing the diesel engine, a groundbreaking innovation that has had a profound impact on transportation and industry.
Diesel came from a fairly academic background. His parents were Bavarian immigrants, and his father, Theodor Diesel, was a bookbinder. Despite being born in France, Diesel spent much of his early life in London before the family moved back to Germany. He had a keen interest in engineering from a young age and went on to study at the Royal Bavarian Polytechnic of Munich, where he excelled in his studies.
