Biography
SAVARD - from the Germanic name 'Savhard' formed from 'sav' of unknown origin and 'hard' which means 'hard, strong'. Or, from old French, designates a wasteland. Nickname then given to one who inhabits such a land. Simon Savard - born May 22, 1623 in St-Pierre de Montreuil-sous-Bois, Paris, Ile-de-France, France. Son of Simon Savard and Marguerite Vinantes, he married Marie Hourdouille, daughter of Quantin Hourdouille and Marie Souhaite, on June 15, 1644 in Montreuil-sous-Bois. From their union 5 children were born. He was a wheelwright master and arrived in the country in 1663 with his wife and children aboard Captain Gargot's ship. Upon his arrival, he requests and receives assistance from the Sovereign Council to help them settle. He died in 1664. His widow remarried in January 1665.
