Biography
CYR - from 'sire', from the Latin 'senior' which means 'lord'. Ironic nickname given to someone who thinks he is a lord.
François Cyr was born around 1754, probably in Beaubassin, Acadie. Some sources maintain that he is the son of Jean and Anne Bourgeois, but the parentage has not been established beyond any doubt. He married Rose-Rosalie Boudreau on January 17, 1781 in Larochelle, France. From this union were born 11 children. He settled in Carleton, more precisely in Cascapedia, where he was identified as an owner in 1800, a fisherman in 1801, a farmer in 1812 and finally a navigator in 1822. He died on January 24, 1842 and was buried on January 26, in Saints- Guardian Angels of Cascapediac, New-Richmond.
