LYONS — Miss Valerie Jean Dashney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dashney of 31 Elmer St., and Steven Edward Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Davis Sr., 4 Joy St., were married at ll a.m., June 5, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Lyons.

The Rev. Richard Orlando, pastor of the church, performed the ceremony.

Miss Harriet Bliek was organist and Mrs. Nancy Kanaley, vocalist.

The church was decorated with altar vases of white gladioli and carnations and two baskets of glads, carnations and yellow and white daisies. A bouquet of the white glads, carnations and yellow roses was at the statue of the Blessed Mother and red glads at the statue of the
Sacred Heart.

Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore an original gown by George Mauer. The ivory satin faced peau was designed with a pearl and crystal Alencon appliqued bodice and yoke fashioned with a Victorian collar. The elbow length sleeves were finished with
a wide flounce of the Alencon lace, which also was appliqued to the deep hemmed skirt. Her detachable train was framed with the appliques of the same lace.

Her three tier elbow length ivory illusion veil was attached to the Alencon lace headpiece which softly framed her face. She carried a Victorian cluster bouquet of miniature white carnations and yellow sweetheart roses with baby's breath and white streamers.

Miss Linda Luenella of Lyons was the maid of honor and Mrs. James Davis Jr. of Sodus, sister of the bridegroom, was the matron, of honor.

The bridesmaids were Miss Mary Musolino of Lyons, Miss Stephanie
Jacula and Miss Mary Ellen Schrank of Rochester and Mrs. Paul Johns of
Phelps.

James Davis Jr. of Sodus was best man for his brother. The ushers were
Gary Barclay, Tim Coluzzi and Richard Tuffy, all of Lyons, and Paul Johns of Phelps and Louis Bellomo of Newark.

Colleen Tuffy of Lyons was the flower girl.

The wedding reception for 230 guests from Baltimore, Md., Rochester,
Batavia, Auburn, Savannah and Lyons was held at Old World Inn.

Following the wedding trip to Cape Cod, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Davis are at home at King's Court Manor, Palmyra. The bride is a graduate of Lyons Central School and of Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing of Rochester General Hospital. She is on the staff at the E. J. Barber Hospital, Lyons. The bridegroom is a graduate of Lyons Central School and is a Vietnam veteran. He is employed with the J. P.
Bebbet Company, Buffalo.

NOTE: It looks like they divorced by 1985, as she is referred to as Valerie Jean Dashney in her father's obituary.

1953 - On July 27, 1953, the Korean War ended with the signing of an armistice agreement at Panmunjom. This ceasefire halted the conflict between North Korea, supported by China and the Soviet Union, and South Korea, backed by United Nations forces primarily from the United States. The agreement established the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) near the 38th parallel, effectively maintaining the pre-war boundary and creating a buffer zone between the two Koreas.

1961 - Vietnam War officially begins with 900 military advisors landing in Saigon.

1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

Survived by her mother, Gloria Dashney, Lyons; one son, Jeff Davis; one daughter, Lisa Davis of Lyons; one aunt, Lucy Tiberio of Savannah; one great aunt, Gertrude Shorey of Auburn; one uncle, Louis DeCola of Palmyra; several cousins; good friends, Susie a Keith Wagner of Lyons. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 a 7-9 at the Boehelm-Pusaterl Funeral Home, 77 William Street, Lyons. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 10:30AM at the First Lutheran Church of Lyons. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Lyons. Her father Jack (John) Dashney was a former mayor of Lyons.
