Announcement is made of the engagement of Miss Gloria De Cola, daughter of Mrs. Angelo De Cola and the late Mr. De Cola of Lyons, to Mr. John Dashney, son of Mrs. Howard Dashney and the late Mr. Dashney of Lyons.

GLORIA DeCOLA AND JOHN DASHNEY WED
Miss Gloria De Cola, daughter of Mrs. Angelo De Cola of Elmer St.. Lyons, became the bride of Mr. John Dashney. son of Mrs. Howard Dashney of Canal St., Lyons, in a beautiful ceremony performed at St. Michael's Church. Lyons, on Saturday, Sept 17 at 9:30 in the morning.

The Rev. John F. Neary received the vows before an altar banked with white and pink gladioli and seven-branched candelabra.

The bride wore a heavy white satin gown en train. Her fingertip veil of French illusion was held in place by orange blossoms in a Chinese effect, and she carried orchids on a white prayer book decorated with baby's breath.

The maid of honor, Miss Louise Petrus, was attired in deep pink
satin and the two bridesmaids, Miss Virginia Santeili and Mrs.
Vincent Amico, all of Lyons, wore aqua blue satin gowns, identical to
that of the maid of honor. All carried arm bouquets of deep red
Talisman roses.

Robert Dashney, brother of the bridegroom, was best man and ushers were Frank Amice and Vincent Amico, both of Lyons.

The bride's mother wore an afternoon dress of black crepe trimmed with black velvet, and wore a corsage of white gardenias.

A dinner for the immediate families was served at La Cantina and a reception followed at the Caroukas Hall from 5 in the eve-ning until 9. Three hundred guests were present from L>ons. Auburn, Albany. Rochester, Clyde, Newark and Geneva.

The bride is a graduate of Lyons Central School, class of 1945, and
is employed by Home Decorators, Commercial Building, Newark. The bridegroom attended Lyons High School, and is now employed by the village of Lyons.

Prenuptial events included a variety shower given by the Misses Louise Petrus, Virginia Santelli and Mrs. Vincent Amico. A variety shower given by Miss Elaine Strobridge and Mrs. Eddie Pitts of Newark, co-workers of the bride.

After a short wedding trip to the Adirondack Mountains, Mr. and Mrs. Dashney will be at home at 31 Elmer St., Lyons.

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

This ceasefire halted the conflict between North Korea, supported by China and the Soviet Union, and South Korea, backed by United Nations forces primarily from the United States. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

In 1963, on November 22, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. George Yackel Wayne County Highway Department since 1952, and for the past eight years, has been a construction foreman. Prior to his county employment he was employed with the village and town highways. He attended Monroe Community College, and in June 1971 completed a
course in 'Elements of Highway Technology'. He is a member of St.
Michael's Church, member of the Wayne County Assn. of Town Superintendants of Highways, the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Associates, and a 30-year member of the Lyons Fire Department. He and his wife, Gloria, reside at 31 Elmer St. Their daughter, Valerie Jean Davis is a nurse at the Barber Hospital. He is running for the
two year term as trustees...

The cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper of Motorola. On April 3, 1973, he made the first handheld mobile phone call with the Motorola DynaTAC. This device weighed 2.5 pounds and was 10 inches long, offering 30 minutes of talk time and requiring 10 hours to charge. The first commercial cell phone was released in 1983, revolutionizing communication and leading to the modern smartphones we use today.
