Mason, and Mr. Charles Fred Roederer, Jr., on January 26, in Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Robert Groves officiated. Mrs. Ervin A. McClain, sister of the bride, and Mr. Arthur Rothenberger were the only attendants. Ushers were Messrs, John Roederer and Eugene Hartman. A reception at the church followed the ceremony. After a short wedding trip. Mr. and Mrs Roederer will make their home on Riachand Lane.

1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved over 156,000 troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. The operation aimed to liberate Western Europe from Nazi German control. The landings marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, leading to the eventual Allied victory in Europe.

1945 - The atomic bomb is invented (J. Robert Oppenheimer, et al., United States)

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

ROEDERER, Charles Fred Jr. 'Charlie' 91, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at his home in Wiamuma, FL. Charlie, originally from Jeffersontown, Kentucky where he met and married Shirley 'Mason'. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in January 2020. Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He spent 40 years with American Standard in Louisville, Kentucky, and retired as a Manufacturing Engineer. Charlie loved his family and enjoyed reminiscing on his life. Charlie, son of the late Charles and Ernestine Roederer. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; and their two daughters, Susan and Karen Roederer; and two sons, Chris (Anita) and Steven Roederer; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Sonntag and Patricia Pierson (Matthew). Missed dearly is daughter, Sandra Sonntag, who passed unexpectedly in 2002. Family also includes two step-grandchildren, Matthew Bowles (Rachel) and Christian Bowles (Mallory); and two great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held on...Read MORE...
