Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Henry Bourgarde of Endwell

Henry Bourgarde, 77, of 364 Twist Run Rd., died Sunday morning at Binghamton General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Bourgarde, Endwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard Willis, Binghamton; two granddaughters and their husbands, JoAnne and Gary Klenovic, Chenango Bridge, Debra and James Lisi, Binghamton; a great-grandson, Jonathan Klenovic, Chenango Bridge; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Christ Church, Binghamton; a retired employee of IBM Corporation and a member of its Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Endicott Elks Club, Otseningo Lodge 435 F.& A.M. - . Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen D. Harris, Rector of Christ Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. Henry Bourgarde of Endwell

Funeral services for Henry Bourgarde will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen D. Harris, Rector of Christ Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Otseningo Masonic Lodge will have its services Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the American Diabetic Association in Mr. Bourgarde's memory.
