Joseph SIMON dit LEONARD  was born 24 May 1688 in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montréal, Québec, Canada* (L'Enfant-Jésus-de-la-Pointe-aux-Trembles).  Joseph died 2 September 1745 in Montréal, Québec, Canada (Sault-au-Récollet) (Côte-St-Michel) (Côte-St-Paul).  Joseph was the child of Leonard SIMON and Mathurine BEAUJAN.

Marie-Renée  married  (2) Jean-Baptiste DUCLOS 8 January 1748 in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montréal, Canada, New France* .  Jean-Baptiste DUCLOS  was born 11 March 1726 in Longue-Pointe, Montréal, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-d'Assise-de-la-Longue-Pointe).  Jean-Baptiste died 8 March 1749 in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montréal, Québec, Canada* (L'Enfant-Jésus-de-la-Pointe-aux-Trembles).  Jean-Baptiste was the child of Jean-Baptiste DUCLOS and Angélique LEHOUX dite LALIBERTÉ.

Marie-Renée  married  (3) Jacques JALTEAU 12 February 1753 in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montréal, Canada, New France* .  Jacques JALTEAU  was born abt. 1717 in France.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
