Dans la jeunesse de mon père, il y a quatre-vingt-dix ans et plus, notre partie des Cantons de l'Est souffrait encore d'une pénurie de clergé, sédentaire et missionaire. Les moyens de communication étaient, d'autre part, fort primitifs. Cet ensemble de circonstances explique que papa conserve vivace, sa vie durant, la mémoire d'un évènement dont il est donné à peu de catholiques de garder un souvenir personnel.
Je veux parler du souvenir de son propre baptême. Jusqu'â son dernier jour, papa pouvait narrer les détails du voyage à califourchon qu'il fit pour recevoir ce sacrement.
