SLATTERY, JOSEPH F. - Joseph F. Slattery of Congers, after a long battle with cancer, died September 22, 2002. Born August 1, 1929 Joe was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, served in NYPD for 27 years rising to the rank of captain and was an agent for the U.S. Justice Department and the Environmental Protection Agency. A proud son of Erin, Joe was an avid carpenter, a golfer and lover of books and history. He was selfless of his time and talent, always ready to lend a hand. Joe is survived by his wife Lillian with whom he shared 51 years of love, companionship and friendship, his loving family of seven children Kathleen Whelan of Central Nyack, Dennis Slattery of Vestal, NY, Mary Bennett of No. Attleboro, MA, Louis Slattery of Highland Falls, Joni Harter of West Nyack, Joseph Slattery, Jr. of Mt. Airy, MD, Annie Sambevski of Valley Cottage. Also surviving him are his siblings Margaret Slattery of Syracuse, NY, Jean Krebs of Syracuse, Dr. John Slattery of Cloyton, NY and Elizabeth Goldferb of Newton, MA. 17 grandchildren Ian, Sarah, Aine, Brian, Kelly, Liam, Caitlin, Jonathan, Joseph, Lillian, Elizabeth, Sean, Maggie, Ryan, Charles, Michael, Meaghan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 10:30 am at St. Paul's Church, Congers. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake. Friends may call at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, Congers Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. T.J.
