Longmeadow – Thomas J. Costello III, 71 died peacefully at home Monday afternoon surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born and raised in Springfield, son of the late Thomas and Olive (O’Brien) Costello Jr. He has lived in Longmeadow since 1979. He owned Elevator Service Repair for many years and later became a State Elevator Inspector, Technical Code Coordinator and Acting Chief of Inspections for the State of Massachusetts. He served as a Lance Corporal for the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and belonged to the V.F.W. and D.A.V. He leaves his best friend and loving wife Joanne (LaFave) Costello; three devoted sons Thomas, Daniel, and David and his wife Nicole; two sisters Darby and husband Stephen Frank, Cris Costello; a brother Brian Costello; and his pride and joy, his grandchildren Bella, Nolan, and Philip Costello. He was predeceased by a sister Kathie Jackman. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews and many many friends that were like family and family that were friends. His legacy lives on through countless stories, laughs and the memories shared around the fire at one of his favorite places, "The Spot." Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday from 3:00 – 6:00pm. The committal service will be Tuesday 9:00am in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
