Obituary

MUIRHEAD. John J. Muirhead, Sr., 79, of East Hartford passed away Tuesday (Feb. 25, 1997). He was the husband or Barbara Pratt Muirhead and the late Margaret (Schaub) Muirhead. Born in Manchester, he had resided in East Hartford for the past 37 years. He was a former communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 30 years by John Hancock Life Insurance Company. Besides his wife, Barbara, Mr. Muirhead is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Denise Muirhead of Haddam, John Jr. and Coleen Muirhead of Manchester, David and Tamaria Muirhead of New Hartford; two stepchildren and their spouses, Richard and Roxanne Pratt of East Hartford, Marge and Walter Rutkowski of East Hampton; 12 grandchildren, Rick, Cynthia, and Michael Muirhead; Melissa, John III, and David Muirhead; Matt, Logan, and Margaret Kelsey Muirhead; Richard and Kimberly Pratt; and Lynn Rutkowski. Funeral service will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 45 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield, 06002.
