Joseph Hector Paradis, 80
Retired TI Cost Estimator and Florist

Joseph Hector Paradis, 80, of Carmen Street, Attleboro, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Irene (Lajoie) Paradis to whom he was married on September 20, 1952.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on July 24, 1929, he was one of 14 children born to the late Delphis J. B. and Aurore A. (Rene) Paradis. He was a lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro and was a 1948 graduate of the former Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, Rhode Island.

Mr. Paradis enlisted in the United States Navy on June 30, 1948 and served his country admirably until his honorable discharge on June 4, 1952. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Campaign Ribbon and the United Nations commendation. He was most proud of serving his country and remained a lifelong patriotic man.

Upon returning from the Armed Forces, Mr. Paradis began employment with Texas Instruments in Attleboro where he worked from 1953 until his retirement in 1975 as a cost estimator.

In 1975 he opened "Flowers from Paradise" on Park Street in Attleboro and owned and operated the business for ten years prior to working at Seasonal Designs in Attleboro Falls from 1985 until his retirement in 1990.

He was a man of strong faith and was a longtime communicant of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in the Dodgeville neighborhood of Attleboro where he also enjoyed volunteering for various church events.

As a proud veteran, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans – Chapter 56 in North Attleboro and the Veteran of Foreign Wars – Gilbert-Perry Post, Attleboro.

Times spent with friends at the Plainville and Attleboro Senior Centers playing cards were among his favorite pastimes.

He enjoyed listening to country music, was an ardent reader and enjoyed solving word search puzzles.

With love he will be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, keen sense of humor and his love for family.

In addition to his dedicated and devoted wife of 57 years, he leaves a daughter: Linda J. Jarosz of Attleboro; two sons: Allan J. Paradis of Crossville, Tennessee and James J. Paradis of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania; 9 grandchildren; three sisters: Yvonne Naylor of Attleboro; Rita Laferriere of Framingham and Anna St. Pierre of Central Falls, Rhode Island; a brother: Ernest Paradis of Attleboro and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Henri A. Paradis, Irene Fontaine, Lucie Cloutier, Lorraine Dorothy, Delphis Paradis, Arthur Paradis, Lionel Paradis, Oliver Paradis and Doris Johnson.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran’s Honors on Saturday, December 19, 2009 from 8:00 – 9:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to join the funeral cortege commencing at 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 683 South Main Street – Route 152, Attleboro, with family friend, the Rev. Phillip A. Davignon, Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption, Osterville and Rev. James Morse, Pastor of St. Stephen Church, Attleboro co-officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be private in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Attleboro.

Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.

Flowers are accepted or memorial donations in Mr. Paradis’ name may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit both the Madonna Manor Nursing Home and the Community Visiting Nurse Agency.
