Obituary



"William Frank Gabel Jr., 73, of this city, died on May 24 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He was a former director of PVC manufacturing at Monsanto Chemical Corp. of Springfield and also worked at Tenneco Chemical Co. of Piscataway, N.J. He was an assistant vice president of Borden Chemical Co. of Leominster and vice president of manufacturing and engineering at Spectrum Fiber Optics Co. of Sturbridge. Born in Cincinnati, he graduated from a five-year cooperative program in chemical engineering at the University of Cincinnati and also received a master's degree in business administration from American International College in Springfield. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War era and belonged to Phi Delta Theta. He leaves his wife, the former Alexandra Stuart; a son, W. Brad of Agawam; a daughter, Debra Gabel Levy of Riverdale, N.Y.; their mother and his former wife, Marilyn Gosse-Gabel of Agawam; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held May 27 in Boston. Brown & Sons Funeral Home of Belmont was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250."
