Deceased Name: Mr. John Bourgarde LaPointe
of 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, died Monday, September 13, 1999 at his home.

"Born May 16, 1915 in Meridan, CT, he was the son of Katharine Bourgarde LaPointe and Dr. John Henry LaPointe. He graduated from Duke University in 1938 and joined The American Brass Company in Waterbury, CT. In 1943, he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy as an ensign and rose to Lieutenant before discharge at the wass end. He returned to the American Brass Company and was sent to Charlotte in 1949 to open a new office. In 1959, he resigned and started a new company called Thermo Plastics. Then in 1963, he bought Industrial Valve and Gauge and as owner, developed it into Summit Corporation. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Charlotte City Club, Myers Park Country Club, and Quail Hollow Country Club, serving on the Board of both clubs, and Hound Ears Club. He also served on the Board of the Employers Association.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18, 1999 in the Harry and Bryant Chapel, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, with The Reverend Becky Holmes, Chaplain of Southminster Retirement Community, officiating. The family will greet friends following the memorial service at Harry and Bryant. Inurnment will be private for the family.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; two children, Jack LaPointe, and his wife Constance of Charlotte, and Janice Pate of Greenville, SC; and 3 grandchildren, Nichole LaPointe and John L. LaPointe of Charlotte, and Michael Pate of Greenville, SC.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Harry and Bryant Company is serving the family of Mr. LaPointe."
