Obituary



Dudley: John C. “Jack” Berry, 85, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 22nd, at Lanessa Extended Care, Webster, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Rita A. (Carmel) Berry; his two daughters, Sandra L. Allen and her husband James of Charlton and Lori Smith of Dudley; his son, Michael J. Berry of Dudley; his son-in-law, Craig Smith of Thompson, CT; his six grandchildren, Erin Rim and her husband Richland, Kelly Derrick and her husband Mat, Chad Smith and his wife Emily, Timothy Allen and his wife Amanda, Becky Terzian and her husband Edward and Jessica Gregorczyk and her husband Stephen; and his 11 great grandchildren, Logan Rim, Reese Rim, Myles Derrick, Easton Derrick, Jospehine Smith, Matthew Allen, Andrew Allen, Mia Terzien, Max Terzien, Ella Terzian and Lily Gregorczyk. He was born in Southbridge the son of Clayton E. and Christine F. (Walsh) Berry. He was a graduate of the former Cole Trade High School in Southbridge. Jack was a US Army Veteran serving in Germany after the Korean War.

Jack was a tool and die maker and worked for the American Optical Co. in Southbridge and later it’s safety division, Aearo Safety, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Louis Church in Webster. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. His best times were spending time with his loving family, friends and loyal companion, his beagle, Molly.

Special thanks and appreciation to the Lanessa Extended Care staff for the loving care they provided to Jack during his last days. In addition to their care we were blessed with having Hospice of Western and Central MA to provide comfort to him during this time. A heartfelt thanks to all of you from Jack’s entire family.

Jack’s funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Aug. 26th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home with a Mass at 10:00am in St. Louis Church, 15 Lake St., Webster. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge, will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 25th, from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
