Benjamin Thomas Sweeny Obituary
Benjamin Thomas Sweeny, 35, passed away suddenly on August 11, 2014 in Burke, Virginia.
It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of a man so full of love. His greatest joy was as a father to his daughter and as an uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Ben was known for being thoughtful and loving.
He jumped at any opportunity to hold or comfort his baby brothers and sister when they were little, and was always the brother who wanted to share and make others happy by giving of himself. Ben was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. He was fun-loving, liked being around people, and enjoyed the outdoors and being in nature. He was a gifted photographer and was often found hiking the Appalachian Trail, barbequing with friends, or camping in the beautiful woods of Virginia. Ben worked hard and enjoyed life, and cared for those around him. We will deeply miss the love and smile of our husband, brother, son, uncle, father, and friend.
Ben is survived by his wife Tetiana Podoliako; daughter Maria Sweeny; parents Brent and Carolyn Sweeny; siblings Anne (Jason) Brahaum, Adam (Karen) Sweeny, Jonathan (Michelle) Sweeny, Brendan (Whitney) Sweeny, and Jennifer (Kyle) Swingle; grandmother Audrey Sweeny; 15 nieces and nephews; and many loving extended family members and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2411 E 2nd Street, Bloomington, IN 47401. The burial will directly follow the funeral service. Arrangements are being provided by The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third, Bloomington, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a college fund for his daughter, Maria Sweeny or The 25th Project: Feeding the Homeless Close to Home, a charity that Ben dedicated much of his love and energy towards (www.the25thproject.org).
