Southbridge Girl Tendered Shower

SOUTHBRIDGE, May 17. - Miss Gertrude Lippe of 51 Harrington street was given a shower in her home tonight by a group of her co-workers of department D-6-R of the American Optical Company and friends. She will become the bride of Felix E Carmel of Hudson avenue Saturday in Sacred Heart Church. Mrs. Edgar Tremblay, the guest's sister, and Miss Evelyn Loranger were hostesses and served refreshments. A musical program and entertainment were presented.

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Felix P. 'Red' Carmel, 90, of 60 Charlton St., a retired market manager, died Saturday, Jan. 15, at Harrington Memorial Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Gertrude (Lippe) Carmel a son, Raymond P. Carmel of Southbridge a daughter, Rita A. Berry of Dudley seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was born in Providence, R.I., son of Joseph and Victoria (Corriveau) Carmel. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Carmel managed the South Street Market for 35 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Mary's Church.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St. After cremation, burial in St. George Cemetery will be at the family's convenience.
