The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. " MILLBURY -- Ronald E.N. Korch, 76, of 2 Railroad Ave., a World War II veteran and a former traffic manager, died Monday, Oct. 15, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Norma V.D. (Smith) Korch three daughters, Karen R. Schudy of Branson, Mo., Marilyn P. Bowser of Charlton and Lauren N. Boffoli of Worcester a brother, Kenneth Korch of Webster two sisters, Bertha Wentworth of Webster and Lillian Sweeney of State College, Pa. six grandchildren nine great- grandchildren nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Webster, son of Andrew and Panna (Rozgonyi) Korch, and lived in Webster before moving to Millbury in 1963. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Asia, the Pacific, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Philippine Liberation.
