Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

WORCESTER - Edgar N. Bibeau, 78, of 14 Dennis Drive, formerly of Southbridge, a retired production manager, died Wednesday in Memorial Hospital after he was stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Susan G. (Skinner) Bibeau; a son, Kenneth E. Bibeau of Worcester; two brothers, Roland A. Bibeau of Warren and George Bibeau of Dudley; a sister, Doris E. Allard of Wilmington; nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, son of Joseph M. and Rose I. (Livernois) Bibeau, and also lived in Cambridge. He lived here 36 years. He graduated from Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge.

Mr. Bibeau was a production manager at Stafford Laboratories, where he worked for 23 years. He retired in 1983. He was previously a superintendent at American Optical Co. in Southbridge.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant...Read MORE...
