"The 20th of June, eighteen hundred fifty-four, after the publication of three bans of marriage, made at the homily of our parish mass during three consecutive Sundays, between Etienne Duquette, adult son of Etienne Duquette, farmer, and of Marguerite Bonnault of this parish on the one part, and Emilie Surprenant, minor daughter of Pierre Surprenant, farmer, and of Therese Blain, also of this parish, on the other part, having been found without impeachment to said marriage, and the parents having consented, we, deserving priests, undersigned, have received the mutual consent to marriage and have given them the nuptial blessing in the presence of Etienne Duquette, father of the groom, and Cyprien, his brother, Pierre Surprenant, father of the bride, and Louis Surprenant, her uncle, who, along with the bride and groom, didn't know how to sign."
