Catherine-Marguerite FORTIN  was born 13 April 1698 in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-Xavier-de-la-Petite-Rivière).  Catherine-Marguerite died 9 April 1739 in Baie-Saint-Paul, Québec, Canada (Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul-de-Baie-Saint-Paul).  Catherine-Marguerite was the child of Jacques FORTIN dit BELLEFONTAINE and Catherine BIVILLE.

Noël  married  (2) Marguerite COCHON (CAUCHON) 20 August 1739 in Château-Richer, Canada, New France .  The couple had (at least) 4 children.
Marguerite COCHON (CAUCHON)  was born 18 July 1710 in Château-Richer, Québec, Canada (La Visitation-de-Notre-Dame de Chateau-Richer).  Marguerite died 2 April 1750 in Baie-Saint-Paul, Québec, Canada (Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul-de-Baie-Saint-Paul).  Marguerite was the child of Joseph-Antoine COCHON (CAUCHON) and Marguerite TOUPIN dite DUSAULT.

Noël  married  (3) Veronique THIBAULT 20 March 1751 in Château-Richer, Canada, New France .  Veronique THIBAULT  was born 23 September 1710 in Château-Richer, Québec, Canada (La Visitation-de-Notre-Dame de Chateau-Richer).  Veronique died 8 April 1772 in Château-Richer, Québec, Canada (La Visitation-de-Notre-Dame de Chateau-Richer).  Veronique was the child of François THIBAULT and Marie-Anne DUPRÉ.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
