1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved over 156,000 troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. The operation aimed to liberate Western Europe from Nazi German control. The landings marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, leading to the eventual Allied victory in Europe.

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. 'The Caldwell News Tribune', Friday, February 12, 1965: Mrs. Bessie Orcutt
Mrs. Bessie Alta Orcutt, 77, of 512 Blaine Street, died yesterday at a local hospital following an extended illness. She was born November 10, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Shewey, at Norton, Kansas, where she was reared. She was married to Benjamin Orcutt, December 04, 1907, and the couple resided there until 1915, when they came to Caldwell where they have since resided. She was a member of the First Full Full Gospel Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a sister, at Norton, Kansas, and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Orcutt, who died September 3, 1949 in California and a daughter in infancy.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Flahiff Chapel. The Rev. Erma Hall of the First Full Gospel Church will officiate. Interment will be at Canyon Hill.
