Doris was born in her parents home during a blitz in Plymouth, England. She traveled with her mother and sibling to Canada in 1918. Her father had arrived earlier with the Govenor General.
Doris suffered from Rhuematic Fever as a child, but grew into a talented young woman. She played piano, snow skied, and was an avid swimmer, skier and belonged to the New Edinburgh Canoe Club She took part in many competitions and won significant awards. She was a stroke in the War Canoe for a time. *The Ottawa New Edinburgh Club (ONEC) is one of the oldest boating clubs in Canada (est. 1883).
Howard John (Beverly) Duffey, aged 24, married Doris Lillian Bennett, aged 24, in September 7, 1939 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

She died at Buckingham Hospital, Buckingham, Quebec. Ashes were retained by her daughter.
