As a child, he grew up on Pretoria Ave. in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He marrie Doris Lillian Bennett September 7, 1939 in Ottawa, Ontario. This couple had one daughter in 1951.
Howard joined the R.C.A.F. in 1939. He was in for 6 years,before being injured from a aircraft propeller accident. He spent a year in a hospital in Montreal, Quebec, before being discharged.
He purchased 100 acre fishing camp circa 1952 in Labelle County, Quebec. This property was located about 4 miles north of Notre Dame du Laus. The land is still in the family as of 2012.
He was able to hold his first grandson before his death.
