Ralph E. Draper
PORTLAND - Ralph Edward Draper, 71, of 201 Montello Heights, Lewiston, died Friday morning at the Maine Medical Center following a short illness.
Born in Lewiston on April 26, 1916, the son of Ralph H. and Mary Fahey Draper, he attended local schools graduating from Lewiston High School in 1934. He attended Bliss College in 1935 where he was an honor student and member of Kappa Alpha Phi fraternity. He then attended Bentley School of Accounting in Boston from 1936 to 1938 where he was an honor student and a member of the Beta Tau Phi fraternity. In 1939, he was employed by the Graphic Theater Circuit until 1941, managing theaters in Millinocket and Camden. He then returned to Lewiston and was associated with his parents in operating Draper's Bakery, a family business until 1968 when it closed. He then became an accountant with Bonan Footwear retiring in 1979. He then became a consultant with Bonan, H & R Block, and asa banker for the Parimutual Racing Corporation.
Mr. Draper was very active in scouting during his school years and belonged to the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club where he was Sergeant at Arms, Vice President and President from 1962 to 1963. He also was a volunteer for the Salvation Army and Bates College building funds, the United Fund and as Vice President of the Lewiston Urban Renewal Program.
Survivors include his wife, the former Maxine Heldman of Lewiston; one brother, Linwood Earl of Fullerton, Cal.; two sons, Ralph Jr. of Nashua, N. H. and Michael H. of Yarmouth; and four grandchildren.
