Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Obituary
WEBSTER - Alice M. (Moore) Blanchette, 73, of 301 Main St., Southbridge, formerly of Webster, died Friday in Providence House Nursing Home, Southbridge, after a long illness.

Her husband, Edmond Blanchette, died in 1975. She leaves a brother, Robert W. Moore of Webster; and several nephews and nieces. She was born in Webster, daughter of L. Jerome and Mary (Walsh) Moore, and lived here most of her life before moving to Southbridge. She graduated from the former St. Louis High School in 1936.

During World War II, Mrs. Blanchette served in the Home Guard. Mr. and Mrs. Blanchette were foster parents to many children. She was also a clerk for many years at several local companies before she retired. She was a member of St. Louis Church.

The funeral will be held Thursday, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. F.A. Sansoucy & Son Funeral Home, 40 Marcy ...Read MORE...
