Before military service and a long career as a Webster police officer, Lawrence Gevry worked as a cook at a popular diner in Auburn. He developed kitchen skills as a kid watching his mother, Agnes (Walsh) Gevry-Henault, prepare family meals, he told friends on a recent afternoon. Apple pies and puddings were his early conquests, and things eventually flowed from the tasty delights. He started as a counter man, became a short-order cook, and shifted to kitchen duty when management learned of his stoveside skills.
