Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

WEBSTER Rita M. (Gevry) Bohenko, 85, of 295 Killdeer Rd., passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Lanessa Extended Care. Her husband, Anthony R. Bohenko, died in 1979.

She leaves behind seven children, Susan B. Wheaton of Webster, Richard A. Bohenko of Webster, Patrick W. Bohenko of Dudley, Peggy A. Owens of Webster, Joanne Bohenko of Webster, Mary Caldwell of Worcester and LuAnne Bernier of Webster; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one brother, Larry Gevry of Webster, and her longtime companion, Ronald 'Toot' Walker, Jr. of Webster; and nieces & nephews. Rita was born in Webster, daughter of Lawrence and Agnes (Walsh) Gevry and lived here all her life. She graduated from St. Anne's School and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She worked for many years at the former Webster Shoe Co. and later for the Patriot Newspaper. WEBSTER – Ronald J. Walker, Sr., 84, also known as “Wee Wee” and “Tu Tu,” of Webster, died Friday, September 23, 2011, in the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard Regional Hospital. His wife of 34 years, Barbara C. (Napierata) Walker, died in 1984. His loving companion of over 20 years, Rita (Gevry) Bohenko, predeceased him.

He leaves 2 sons, Ronald J. Walker, Jr. and his wife Jean of Webster, and Alan J. Walker and his wife Mary of Oxford; a daughter, Robin Suss and her husband Michael of Dudley; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Walker, Jill Brewer, Amanda Suss and Samantha Suss; 2 great grandchildren, Joseph Walker and Emily Suss; his beloved extended family, JoAnne Bohenko, Peggy and Harry Owens, Sue Wheaton, Vicki Laney, Mary Caldwell and Lu-Anne Bernier; nephews and nieces.
