1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. In 1963, on November 22, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. The assassination shocked the nation and the world, leading to widespread mourning and a period of intense national introspection. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the 36th President of the United States shortly after Kennedy's death. The assassination sparked numerous conspiracy theories and investigations, with the Warren Commission ultimately concluding that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination. Obituary
Pierre Peloquin

SOUTHBRIDGE - Pierre Peloquin, 81, of 283 Charlton St., died this morning in the Southbridge Nursing Home.

Mr. Peloquin was born in Southbridge. Before his retirement, he worked at American Optical Co. 52 years, and was a member of the firm's Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the League of Sacred Heart of Sacred Heart parish.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Anna (Talbot) Peloquin; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Leduc; a son, Lionel Peloquin of Sturbridge, and a sister, Mrs. Rose McCone of Newton.

The funeral will be at 8 a.m. Saturday from the Frank A. Sansoucy & Son Funeral Home with a High Mass at 9 in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
