"DALTON - Miss Christine Louise Fraley, daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifford J. Fraley of Maple St., Hinsdale and Robert Howe Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. William V. Johnson of Old Windsor Rd., were married last week at Grace Church by Rev. William F. Starr. A family dinner followed at White Tree Club, Pittsfield. Mr. and Mrs. William V. Johnson, Jr., of Amherst, brother and sister-in-law of the bridegroom, attended the couple. Johnson, who graduated from Dalton High School in 1960, attended University of Rochester and is now a student at Berkshire Community College. He served six months in the Army and is a member of the Army Reserve."

Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Robert H. Johnson, Was Star Athlete

DALTON - Robert H. Johnson, 31, of 203 North St., Dalton High School graduate and star athlete, died Friday in Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield.

He played football and was captain of the school basketball team.

A native of Winchester, he attended University of Rochester and Berkshire Community College and was a salesman for the 1888 Clothing Store, Pittsfield, 13 years.

Besides his wife, the former Chirstine Fraley, he leaves two sons, Robert Jr. and Michael F; a daughter, Amy H. all at home; his parents, William V. and Helen (Howe) Johnson of Dalton; two brothers, maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather.

A memorial service will be today in Grace Episcopal Church with cremation to follow. Dery-Foley funeral home is in charge. Donations may be made to Berkshire Medical Center cancer research fund.
