"On 26 January 1678, at the residence of the widow, the notary Pierre Duquet had come on snowshoes to settle the terms of the marriage contract. The Breton Guillaume Chartier, in New France since 1674, so of Olivier and of Marie Cornet, about 29 years old, originally from Sainte-Marie de La Haie-Fouassiere, canton of Vertou, arrondissement of Nantes in Brittany, committed himself to marry Marguerite Abraham... At the church of Sainte-Famille on the island on the following Monday, 21 January, the pastor Lamy blessed this union in the presence of the witnesses Noel Forestier, Michel Enaud, Jean Jouanne and Isaac Pasquier dit Lavallee... This marriage had no descendants and seemed to be strained."
