Obituary



Presque Isle – John W. Erskine, 92, prominent potato grower, died at a local hospital late Friday, November 2, 1962, following a brief illness. He had resided here 80 years. He was born at Biddeford April 18, 1870, son of Roger W. and Almira Williams Erskine.

Mr. Erskine was a member of Grant Memorial Methodist Church, Odd Fellows Lodge, Trinity Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, the Moose Club, Abenaki Club, Eastern Grange and Zephyr Rebecca Lodge. He was an honorary member of the Northern National Bank of Presque Isle, and served for many years as trustee of the Presque Isle General Hospital.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mae (Coffey) Erskine; one son, James Roger of Presque Isle; two daughters, Mary Palmer of Island Falls and Dorothy Beaton of Robinson; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday at 53 Dyer Street. The Rev. Harold Rowley, pastor of Grant Memorial Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Estes Park Cemetery in Easton. (Published in the Bangor Daily News)
