GEORGE H. WHITE DIES IN 66TH YR.
Pittsfield Man Was Head of Former Brewery

George Henry White, 65, president and treasurer of the Berkshire Brewing association, died Tuesday morning at his home, 124 Circular avenue, Pittsfleld. He had been ill six months with a heart malady.

Mr. White was born at Pittsfield January 28,1870. son of the late John and Rachel Gimlich White, both natives of Germany. He attended the old Briggs elementary school, Pittsfield high school, and for more than 40 years was an executive officer of the Berkshire Brewing association. The industry was started in 1868 with a daily output of six barrels. When it was closed with the advent of prohibition the daily output was 325 barrels daily. The original owners were Mr. White's father, the late John White and the late Jacob Gimlich. The plant was located at the corner of Columbus avenue and Onota street. It was dismantled In 1929. Most of the building still stands.

Mr. White had a keen zest for motoring and owned one of the first cars in Pittsfield. He was a member of Crescent lodge of Masons, the Zion Lutheran church, Shriners and Pittsfield lodge of Elks.

The survivors are his widow, who is the former Mary J Hodecker, four daughters, Mrs. William J. Hayes of Cambridge. Mrs. Franklin Gamwell of Bridgeport. Ct., Mrs: William E. Bagg, Jr., and Mrs. C. Herrick Cook of Pittsfield; also six grandchildren.

The body was taken in charge by Wellington & Crosier, undertakers, and the funeral will be held at the home, Thursday at 2.30 p. m., with Rev. Henry B. Dickert officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield cemetery.
