Another Veteran GONE
Stephen J. COOK (JOSHUA) passed away, Sat Afternoon, Jan 12, 1912 at his home here (Findley Lake) after an illness of about 10 days. Deceased was born in Waterford ERIE County PA July 16, 1831 where he spent the early part of his life, He married there to Martha EASTMAN, Sept 9, 1855 To them were born 7 children. In 1862 when the call came for volunteers, he was among the first to enlist, serving in the Co K Reg 145th PA VOL
until the close of the war. From the Battle of Petersburg , he with many unfortunate ones, was captured and placed in ANDERSONVILLE prison, there confined for 6 months. then transferred to Florence, remaining for 2 1/ 2 months. After the close of the war, some years were spent in Union City, (Erie Co) PA. The past 30 years he has resided in or near this village, He became identified with the U B Church many years ago, he was the last survivor of 9 NINE Children (Cook).
The Rev D. H. DUNBAR assisted by Rev. L L HAGER, the only surviving witness to the marriage in 1855 and Rev. O. J. GAGE pastor of the Baptist church officiated.

A daughter Effie or Elsie? died in infancy, and a son Fred W. COOK died in 1892
17 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren survive.
