Will of John Hughett Jr
John Jr's originally recorded will of October 19, 1704 wa s lost in the 1710 fire which destroyed the Courthouse . I was rerecorded May 10, 1719 by Ephraim Hughlett, his s on, as a copy, attested and witnessed by the marks of Robe r (x) Christopher and Ann (A) Christopher as follows, and o riginally probated on January 19, 1705/ 6:

In the name of God Amen the last will and testament of Joh n Hughlett being in good and perfect mind and memory thank s be to God for ye same and calling to remembrance ye uncer tain estate of this transitory life and that all flesh mus t yield unto death when it shall please God to call, I do m ake Ordain and Declare this to be my last will and testamen t, in manner and form as followeth. First, I commende my S oule to Allmighty God my Creator and Redeemer in who by th e Merrits of Jesus Christ I trust and believe assuredley t o be saved and to receive full remission and forgiveness fo r my sins and my body to the earth from whence it was take n to be buriedat ye discretion of my exor: hereafter name d and as for the small Estates which it hath pleased God t o bestow upon me after my just debts pay'd I give as follow eth, this only to be taken as my last will and testament . Item I give bequeath to my son John Hughlett the lands w hich I had with his mother lying and being in the County o f Richmond and upon ye braches of the Totaskey to him and h is heirs forever with a golden ring which my Father left me . Item I give and bequeath to my Two sons Ephraim Hughlet t and Wm. Hughlett that land which my father lived on, th e lower part where olde plantation is to my son Ephraim y e upperpart to my son William, to be divided at a Valley fo rmerly called Chinkapin Valley the neck of land which lyet h in ye fork of ye branches next to ye Widow Dunnaways whol de to belong to my son William and likewise I give my son W m. my land at the bottom of the Five Acre Neck I give ye ab ove land to my above sons and their heirs forever. Ite m I give to my son Yarrat Hughlett the land which Ilive upo n to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to my two daug hters Winnifred and Elizabeth Hughlett to each one feathe r bed that may be approved good with curtains and vallens a nd coverings suitable to be paid to them at ye Days of marr iage or the years of Eighteen which first happens and if m y wife shall allow of this my will and give my son John, th e land above mentioned then I do give her all ye rest of m y estate and make her wold and sole Ex, of this my last wil l and testament. sign'd seal'd in the presences of us, th e words (?) and (that?)
