Obituary

Dorothy Jean (Browe) Moranda, 89, died Saturday morning October 30, 2010 in Fresno. Dorothy was born August 22, 1921 in Selma, California. She was the oldest daughter of Gladys (Bishop) Rowland and Gene Browe, Sr. Dorothy grew up on a ranch in Selma, attended Fruitvale Grammar School and graduated from Selma Union High School in 1939. Before she married, Dorothy was a secretary at various places including Fresno State for Dr. Mitchell Briggs, Dean of Men and Fresno City College on a part-time basis after she married. She was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother and wife of Theodore N. “Ted” Moranda for 60 years until his death in 2008. Dorothy loved music; she played the bell lyre in the high school marching band played piano in the school orchestra. She and Ted loved to dance to the music of their era, the Big Band sounds of the 1940’s. They were wonderful dancers; their foxtrot had no equal. Dorothy was a good athlete and enjoyed playing and watching sports. In high school she played on the volleyball team and she played tennis into her early 80’s. She and Ted attended every sporting event and dramatic and choir production they could of their children and grandson’s; Dorothy continued that tradition after Ted’s death. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Ted; both her parents; her sister Lola B. Owensby; her grandson, John Moranda Vigil; her step-father Hiram “Hi” Rowland; her half-sister Kathy (Browe) Berry; her brothers- in –law, Earle, Walter B. “Bill”, George and Paul Moranda, Harry Allison and Wayne Bohl; her sisters- in-law, Maye Moranda White, Becky and Verna Fay Moranda. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Susan Moranda Vigil of Fresno; her son Dean Moranda and his wife Cindy of Clovis; her grandsons, Steven Moranda of San Diego; Christopher Vigil of Santa Barbara; and Seth Moranda of Clovis; her sisters Marian Allison of Clovis and Norma Bohl of Lummi Island, Washington; her half-brother Marion (Gene) Browe, Jr. of Selma; her Brother-in-law Bob Moranda of Granada Hills; her sisters-in-law Jeannette Moranda of Port Hueneme; Nancy Moranda of Lynchburg Virginia; and Colette Moranda of Orange; her uncles and aunt Hubert and Clark Bishop and his wife Ethel of Selma; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 8, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Floral Memorial Park, Selma, California.
