PAXTON - Howard A. "Bud" Aubertin, 74, of Paxton, a longtime mechanical engineer, died Saturday in University Commons Nursing Center after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 37 years, Annette M. (Richer) Aubertin; two sons, Howard A. Aubertin of Layton, Utah, and Daniel J. Aubertin of Worcester; a daughter, Amy L. Aubertin of Ashby; two sisters, Dorothy Appleby of Harwich Port and Marjorie Pratt of Dennis; a grandson; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Howard A. and Walburga E. (Bieberbach) Aubertin, and lived here 37 years.

He graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1943. At WPI, he was vice president of his senior class, competed on its diving team, and was a member of the Skull, an honorary society.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps.

Mr. Aubertin was a mechanical engineer for many years. He worked in sales for 17 years at Trane Co., based in Boston, and 17 years as a project engineer at J. George Lamotte & Sons Inc., then in Worcester. He was later a resident engineer for the state Department of Health & Human Services before he retired.

He was a member of St. Columba's Church and once served on its building committee. He was a member of the Worcester Ski Club and the Seven Hills Wheelmen. He once served on the town Recreation committee, and once a coach in the Paxton Little League. He was an enthusiastic cyclist, golfer and skier.

The funeral will be held Wednesday from Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Columba's Church, 10 Richards Ave. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery. Calling hours are 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Society of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Johns Hopkins Hospital, 5065 Outpatient Center, 601 North Caroline St., Baltimore, Md. 21287; or University Commons Nursing Center, Activity Fund, 378 Plantation St., Worcester 01605.
