WESTMINSTER -- Edward Joseph Dube, 82, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Fitchburg, after a long illness.
Ed leaves his wife Claire A. (Masse) Dube; two sisters, Nancy Dube and Linda Dube, both of Fitchburg; a niece, Lisa LaPerle and her husband, David of Winchendon; two nephews, Richard Paine, Jr. and his wife, Judy of Gardner, and Michael Paine of Fitchburg.

He leaves three grandnieces, Katie Paine of Gardner, Meghan Farrell of Winchendon, and Ellie Paine of Westminster; three grandnephews, Lucas Paine of Gardner, Pvt. Cameron M. Farrell with the US Army in Ft. Lewis, Washington and Thomas Paine of Westminster; one sister-in-law, Lyette Dube of Westminster.

He is predeceased by two brothers, James Dube and William Dube.

Ed was born in Westminster, on September 1, 1929, a son of the late Jeffrey and Rose (Vincent) Dube. He went to the Upton School and graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1948.

He received his associate's degree from MWCC College. He also took many courses related to his special responsibilities as a police officer, security employee at Digital Equipment Corp., such as locksmith, CPR, and First Aid to train the trainer and USA Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License.

Ed worked for the Westminster Highway Dept. from 1948-1950, he also worked as a volunteer for the Cemetery and the Fire Department.

He then joined the US Army on Oct. 10, 1950 and retired from the Army as a First Sergeant on July 31, 1972. During Ed's time of Service to our country, he was a Master Paratrooper, Ed was associated with the 11th Airborne, the 82nd Airborne, and the 101st Airborne. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam, Ed was the recipient of a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts and the Master Parachutist Badge, among his many other awards, and decorations. During his service in the Army, he had met many requirements such as Demolitions, Mines, and Booby Trap courses, Air Transportability Course, Vietnamese language, and various levels of non-commission officer courses.
