Obituary

"AN AGED CITIZEN GONE - Monday there passed peacefully away all that was mortal of Peter B. Wood, whose whitened locks and kindly face will long be remembered by us all. It seems difficult to realize that the often familiar sight of Mr. Wood, and his equally aged wife, will no more be seen together on our streets. The husband and father has gone the way of all the earth, leaving his inseparable companion of about sixty-five years, to mourn his loss yet a little while. Mr. Wood was born near Richmond, Staten Island, August 7th, 1801; from there he removed to South Amboy, N. J., when about seven years of age. He was married to Catherine Burlew of that place in 1823, thus making a record of happy wedded life rarely spent in connubial felicity-almost the Scripture's alloted life to man.- There is only six weeks difference in their ages, Mrs. Wood being the junior. They came to this section in 1836, and in the fall of the same year purchased and settled upon the homestead farm where they have since lived. Five children have been given them, three of whom are still living here, Winance, Etsel and George. Of the others, a daughter died at the age of four years, and the late James Wood who was one of our most active business men, a few years ago, when suddenly called away by death. A kindly memory will be cherished of the deceased who has acquitted himself a kind neighbor, and indulgent parent and a loving and faithful husband. The funeral will be held from the family residence Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, March 30th."
